Fujinomiya Origin
Fujinomiya is the great city that has old history regarding to Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha (the origin of Sengen shrine which has branches in all parts of Japan). It was used to call “Omiya-cho” until the establishment of a municipal system. However it was renamed to Fujinomiya after the establishment because it sounds much more perfect for the reasons that the definition of miya (shrine) of Mt. Fuji and the name itself, Omiya (-shi) was already used in Saitama prefecture at that time.
This area has stunning and enormous tourist attractions. Fujinomiya is known as the fact that a famous great person of the past in Japanese history conducted the large scale of hunting in Asagiri Kogen, where is in the west foot part of Mt.Fuji.
Furthermore, nearly the half part of Mt. Fuji is included in the city. (Owned by Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha)
Spring water of Mt.Fuji, especially from “Wakutama-ike (Special Natural Monuments)” in Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha, comes out about 20 megatons every minutes and it is the source of Kanda river which flows through the city.
